Jean-Eric Vergne has said he definitely feels ready for F1 - and he is already looking forward to making his race debut with Toro Rosso in Australia in March 2012.
The Frenchman was confirmed as part of an all-new driver line-up at the Faenza-based outfit, Red Bull's Junior team, on Wednesday [see separate story - click here
]. He will team up with Daniel Ricciardo, and just like the Australian, he is over-the-moon to get the chance to race at the very pinnacle of the sport. Unlike Ricciardo though, Melbourne will represent the 21-year-old's very first F1 race.
“First of all, I must thank Red Bull for all their support so far and for believing I am ready to take on the ultimate challenge of racing in F1. Christmas has come early for me this year!” said Vergne, who has already worked with STR, most recently driving in opening practice at three of the last four Grand's Prix of the 2011 season.
“Having driven for them a few times this year and also testing for Red Bull Racing in Abu Dhabi, I definitely feel ready to make the move, even if I know there is a big difference between testing and actually racing.
“I enjoyed working with the guys at Toro Rosso this year and I can't wait to be part of the team for real. Sitting on the grid in Melbourne next March cannot come soon enough,” concluded the 2010 British F3 champion and 2011 Renault 3.5 Series vice-champion.
