Last chance to vote for your F1 Driver of the Year - final day of voting Wednesday, December 21
After the five-way scrap that concluded the 2010 F1 world championship, 2011 could have been something of a damp squib but, thanks to the efforts of those on-track, it remained compelling viewing.
Although Sebastian Vettel ensured that the road to the title was largely one-way traffic, the German breaking hearts and records in equal measure, the supporting cast did their bit to ensure that the season never became boring.
Jenson Button led the pursuit of Vettel, with a three-win tally only equalled by McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton. Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and Vettel's Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber each secured a single victory, but did any of them actually perform better than the champion?
And what of the rest of the field? Felipe Massa may not have won races, but Hamilton will attest to his still feisty nature. Mercedes duo Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher both had their highlights, the seven-time champion continuing to improve as the season went on. Force India's Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta helped lift the Silverstone team to a high of sixth in the constructors' standings, even though it was not quite enough to overhaul a Renault squad that lost Robert Kubica before a wheel had been turned and relied instead on a combination of Vitaly Petrov, Nick Heidfeld and Bruno Senna.
Behind them, Sauber, with Kamui Kobayashi and rookie Sergio Perez had just enough in hand to see off a late surge from Toro Rosso's Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi, while Williams pairing Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado battled mightily in the face of adversity.
'Division three' once again went the way of Team Lotus, with the unchanged line-up of Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli continuing to enjoy an advantage over the HRT threesome of Tonio Liuzzi, Narain Karthikeyan and newcomer Daniel Ricciardo and Marussia Virgin's Timo Glock and Jerome d'Ambrosio.
With each driver meriting attention in his own right, picking a top ten will not be easy, so we're leaving it up to you to rate their individual performances and compile the definitive list.....
