Top ten F1 Drivers of the Year: 10th

He had his hands full with a rookie team-mate in 2011, but Adrian Sutil did enough to claim ninth in the F1 standings - and tenth in your F1 Driver of the Year poll

2011 could prove to be a pivotal year in Adrian Sutil's F1 career, but not necessarily for the better.

Although the German helped Force India to its best-ever finish in the teams' standings, with sixth place ahead of both Sauber and Toro Rosso, he knew he could still find himself without a seat if the Silverstone-based squad opted for test driver Nico Hulkenberg in 2012.

Despite being neck-and-neck with rookie team-mate Paul di Resta in qualifying throughout the year – eventually edging the battle 10-9 at the final round - Sutil showed what he was capable of with sixth in the Interlagos finale and string of other point-scoring finishes that elevated him to ninth in the final standings.

Sadly, Force India, its hand possibly already forced prior to Brazil, announced that Hulkenberg would indeed take Sutil's place alongside di Resta in 2012, leaving the elder German in limbo with just a handful of seats still available.

Whether he lands at either Williams or HRT – and he remains the favourite at the former - Sutil is unlikely to find a car to match the VJM04 next season.

Sutil deserved to be higher than 10th in the list! He has been constantly fast in practice, qualifying & races! He has the talent but sadly Force India weren't very good in the first half of the season otherwise he would've been having much more points! He is surely a top 4 team material! He has become a better driver in the last 2 years & is quite fast & competitive! I'm sure, he won't dissapoint if he gets a chance to be a driver for a top team! If he doesn't get a drive in 2012 or a good deal for 2013 then it's a real shame for wasting talent!

I thought he did an excellent job last year - he really needs to be in a Williams next year, for both their sakes! (Senna in a Williams, or maybe Taki Inoue has a budget and can paint his helmet like Alain Prosts!)
