Top 10 F1 Drivers of the Year 2011:
Mercedes Petronas GP
If Michael Schumacher can take anything away from 2011, it is that it was a better campaign than his return in 2010.
The seven-time champion was more of a factor for longer, even though he continued to miss the podium in a car that was no match for McLaren, Ferrari or Red Bull. A slow start to the campaign again raised doubts about the wisdom of his comeback, but Schumacher turned his year around after his home race with a string of top six results that helped close the points gap to team-mate Nico Rosberg.
Ironically, his best finish was one better than his countryman's, with fourth place in the rain in Canada – when he looked set to return to the podium for the first time since finishing his first stint in the top flight four years previously, only for Mark Webber to depose him in the closing stages.
There were still too many incidents with other drivers, Vitaly Petrov in particular, and the veteran was again out-gunned by Rosberg in qualifying, by a score of 16-3, but he'll be back for more in 2012, hoping Mercedes can get its act together.
