Buemi secures Red Bull role

Sebastien Buemi named as Red Bull test and reserve driver for the 2012 season
Red Bull Racing has confirmed that Sebastien Buemi will complete its driver line-up for the 2011 F1 season after naming the Swiss racer in its test and reserve role.

Buemi will take up the position having been replaced at Toro Rosso, and had been widely expected to take up the testing role in order to retain his relationship with Red Bull [See separate story HERE].

While he readily admits that he would have preferred to be in a race seat again for 2011, Buemi insisted that his role with the defending champions was the best option available for his career.

“It's good to remain with Red Bull for another year and have this opportunity with the World Championship winning team,” he said. “I would prefer to be driving at the races of course, but working with Red Bull Racing on the development of their car and providing them with feedback throughout the season is the next best thing.”

Team boss Christian Horner insisted that it was a 'logical decision' to put Buemi in the role given his long relationship with the drinks company.

“It was entirely logical for Sebastien to continue with Red Bull having been a member of the Junior Team since 2004,” he said. “He already knows the team well from his time with us in 2008 and has gained significant race experience over the past three years. He will complete important test and simulation work for us throughout the year and will be in attendance at each grand prix.”

PS / It would be even more of a pity if Sutil doesn't find a home. He is clearly a driver that given a decent car could challenge at the front.
