Kimi Raikkonen: Sometimes you hear some nonsense and sometimes you hear nice things. The main thing is that coming back is what I wanted and I have a good opportunity with the team so I'm happy...

Kimi Raikkonen has said he is not at all concerned about any negative reports following his decision to return to F1 this year.

The Finn, who was at Lotus' Enstone-base for a seat fitting this week [see separate story - click here], has spent the last year two years competing in the FIA World Rally Championship with Citroen.

However he has now opted to return to the sport where he has already won 18 races and taken over 60 podiums, along with, of course, the F1 drivers' title in 2007.

“There has been quite a bit of noise in the press about my comeback and there have been a lot of rumours. For me, coming back to F1 is a good thing and I hope it will be for the team and the fans also!” he said.

“I love this time of the year at the factory. There's a real buzz surrounding the new car, every single department is working flat out in order to have everything ready on time. You can really feel people's dedication and it's nice to be a part of it.”

Asked about some of the less kind comments that have been aired since his deal with Lotus was announced, he added it is not something that bothers him.

“It has no effect on me – sometimes you hear some nonsense and sometimes you hear nice things,” he continued.

“The main thing is that coming back is what I wanted and I have a good opportunity with the team so I'm happy. I have never really looked at what people say or think. I do my own thing and as long as I'm happy with it then that's the main thing for me.”

There's always noise in the press trying to make headlines at the quietest time of the F1 season. Fair play to him for ignoring them. Glad to have Kimi back.
