A fitness expert renowned for his work with several current F1 stars, including double world champion Sebastian Vettel, died suddenly during a bike ride with friends at the weekend.
Raniero Gianotti, who also worked with veterans Jarno Trulli and Rubens Barrichello and both Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi during their time at Scuderia Toro Rosso, reportedly suffered a heart attack in the early stages of an outing in the Marche region of Italy. He was 46 years old and regarded as one of the fittest men in the paddock outside of an F1 car.
"Today I lost a brother," Alguersuari wrote on his Twitter
feed, "Raniero will remain forever in my heart. Thanks to him I could get here. Do not ever forget."
It was Barrichello, meanwhile, who broke news of Gianotti's heart attack.
“It was so sad when I received the news that my great friend and fisio [sic
] Raniero passed away this morning," the Brazilian wrote, "RIP Raniero... I will miss you..."
Gianotti leaves behind a wife Nadia and young son, to whom Crash.net
sends its sincere condolences.
