Jobs cut at the Nurburgring

Operators of the Nurburgring cut jobs despite ongoing talks with Bernie Ecclestone
Operators at the Nurburgring have announced the loss of nearly 100 jobs despite ongoing talks with Bernie Ecclestone about the 2013 German Grand Prix.

The circuit played host to the race last season and 2013 will mark the next time that the race is due to return, with Hockenheim being home to the race for 2012.

While discussions are now ongoing with Ecclestone about the next running of the race at the Nurburging, jobs are being lost although spokesman Karl-Heinz Steinkuehler said there was no cause for concern.

"The operators have no problem and the season starting in April this year is fully guaranteed," he told Reuters. "The cutbacks are necessary to meet the leasing costs.

"Negotiations with Bernie Ecclestone have already started and are ongoing for the 2013 race. At the moment there is package that the operators look at positively. But it is also the state of Rhineland-Palatinate that needs to sign off as a partners for any deal."
