Kimi Raikkonen has taken another step on his path towards returning to F1 competition by climbing back into the cockpit of a single-seater at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia.
The outing, in one of the Lotus F1 team's Renault-powered R30 chassis from 2010, was announced last week and grants Raikkonen's wish to get some seat time in order to better prepare for his return from two years in the World Rally Championship. Official pre-season testing, where Raikkonen will have access to Lotus Racing's 2012 contender following its launch next Sunday, begins on Tuesday 7 February but, until then, the Finn can get as much track as he wants in an older-spec car, which has to run on tyres designed for demo runs rather than those built to full race specification.
The two-day test is the first F1 outing for the 2007 world champion since the 2009 season finale in Abu Dhabi, after which he turned his attention to rallying on a full-time basis.
