Vergne keen to emulate Vettel

Jean-Eric Vergne admits he dreams of earning a chance to race for Red Bull
Jean-Eric Vergne says hopes he can follow the lead set by Sebastian Vettel in using his drive with Toro Rosso as a launch-pad into a top line F1 role.

Despite previously stating that he was focusing 'on the present' [See separate story HERE], Verge admitted that he couldn't ignore the fact that his role with Toro Rosso could lead to a move to Red Bull.

Previously, Vettel secured Toro Rosso's only F1 victory at Monza in 2008 before moving up the Red Bull line-up for 2009 – going on to secure back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011.

"I've earned this chance after a challenging year and by virtue of my success," Vergne told RMC radio. "It was not easy getting here. Red Bull have given me this chance but if I don't put in the performances and results I could be kicked out.

“Of course Toro Rosso is not a team with whom you can fight to win a grand prix or the Championship but it is part of the path already laid out when I entered the Red Bull junior programme. At the bottom is the way place where Sebastian Vettel started so why should I not be like him and hope to get to Championship-winning Red Bull team.

"We are not yet in 2013..."

Vergne and team-mate Daniel Ricciardo have both been linked to Red Bull after being moved into Toro Rosso race seats for 2012.

This guy's got a big mouth. One minute he is saying he could do just as well as Webber has done if he were given the second seat at RBR, now he claims he wants to emulate Vettel's performances when he was at Torro Rosso. In contrast we have his reserved and careful team mate, Ricciardo. I know who my moneys on to win the Torro Rosso battle this year and it is not BIG MOUTH.

Not hard to emulate Vettel. Just hang your buck teeth out the front and start pointing your fingers in every direction. And then yell budda bing bing ring a ding ding. And then hop on Bernies plane or boat and head home.
