Lotus launches E20

Lotus launches its new E20 at Enstone
Lotus has become the next team to reveal its 2012 F1 challenger in an online event broadcast through the team's official website.

Like every other new car thus far, aside from the McLaren MP4-27, the E20 features a stepped nose design to fit into the new regulations – albeit with the design being less radical than that seen on the new Ferrari last week.

The car also includes a more traditional exhaust to adhere to the change in regulations after an innovative – but ultimately failed – attempt at a forward exiting exhaust last year.

However, speaking during the launch presentation, team boss Eric Boullier insisted there were plenty of innovative features on the new car.

"Our reputation is good in terms of innovation and we brought through some nice ones in recent years,” he said. “Let's say some were more delicate ones, but definitely we have some this year.

"My biggest hope is obviously to bring the positivity back again and to make sure this team is again at the front of the grid and for many years and a long time. I also want to see the people of Enstone enjoying life here and enjoying their passion for motor racing and F1.

"Of course, the fear is that we can have anything wrong which you cannot expect or handle and which would slow down this process."

Kimi Raikkonen leads the team on his return to the sport after two years in the WRC, with Romain Grosjean also returning to the grid in the second car having taken the GP2 title last year.
