Kamui Kobayashi put the first few laps on the brand new C31 this afternoon at Jerez.
Following on from the launch of the Sauber C31-Ferrari this morning, the Japanese driver headed out onto the Spanish track with the squad's 2012 F1 contender at 13.45 hours local time. Although testing doesn't start officially until tomorrow, teams can still complete a limited amount of kilometres for 'filming purposes'.
“I obviously can't make serious judgements on the car because we had just a promotional day and were running only demo tyres,” Kobayashi explained. “But still it is always a good start to the season when everything goes smoothly and according to plan.
“Being that perfectly on time actually is very Japanese and Swiss as well. All systems worked fine. It is a very nice feeling to be back in the car and with the team and I'm very much looking forward to proper testing now.”
Kobayashi will now start the 'real' test programme tomorrow, before handing over to team-mate, Sergio Perez for days two and three.
Kobayashi will then return to the cockpit for the fourth and final day at
Jerez on Friday.
