Former F1 title winner Alain Prost has been named a new international ambassador for Renault, renewing what was previously a hugely successful relationship with the French manufacturer.

Prost spent three seasons driving for Renault from 1981 to 1983 and then secured his final F1 title in 1993 using Renault power in the back of his Williams FW15C.

In recent years, Prost has competed in the Andros Trophy at the wheel of a Dacia - the Romanian car company owned by Renault - since the late 1990s.

Prost's new role will see him represent Renault at a number of events while he will also provide technical expertise to the company.

"Renault's history is intimately linked to that of motorsport and I have a deep attachment to the brand, with which I achieved some of the greatest successes in my sporting career," he said. "I accepted this mission with pleasure and I intend to accomplish it with professionalism."
