The HRT team is racing to prepare for the final pre-season test of the year after its new F112 successfully passed its
FIA crash tests.
According to respected F1 journalist Joe Saward, the car has now passed the required tests that will allow the team to take part in the second Catalunya test, provided the team can prepare its new car in time for the session getting underway on Thursday.
Initially, HRT had planned to debut its new car during the second test of the season before the failure to pass all of the
FIA tests left it sitting on the sidelines – with regulations in place for this season stating that teams have to pass all crash tests before hitting the track.
Should the team - which has signed
Pedro de la Rosa and Narain Karthikeyan for the season ahead - fail to hit the track for the final test of the year, it would mark the third straight year that it will go to the first round of the campaign without any running.
