Vettel targets forward step

Sebastian Vettel hopes to see more progress from Red Bull on the final weekend of pre-season testing
Sebastian Vettel says he is hopeful that Red Bull Racing will be able to take 'another small step forward' before the start of the 2012 F1 season in Melbourne.

Despite causing one of a number of stoppages during Friday's running when the RB8 stopped on track at Catalunya, Vettel ended the his penultimate day of pre-season testing with the third quickest time – 0.7secs down on the benchmark lap set by Romain Grosjean.

With one more day at the wheel of the car planned on Sunday, Vettel said he was hopeful of finding more performance from the new car to complete a pre-season that has gone 'pretty well'.

“It was quite a messy day because of the fog and there were quite a lot of red flags out there so it was hard to get into a good rhythm,” he said. “We had our own stoppage on the circuit, but it was no problem. It's never nice to stop but we brought the car back and it wasn't a big problem. We didn't fulfil the programme entirely but I think we are heading in a good way.

“I have one more day to go and so far testing has gone pretty well. Not perfect of course, it never is, but all in all I feel quite happy in the car. It's more or less what we expected and hopefully we'll have another two good days to prepare for the first race.

“The last couple of days of testing are always quite important as you always bring a few new things and it's much closer to the car you will race in Melbourne, so we'll see if that works out and hopefully we'll be able to make another small step forward before the first.”

If the oppositions cars are not equal to his,no matter how good SEB may be, he will always be remembered like another Giacomo Agostini, never better than Hailwood because his far superior MV Augusta took most of the credit, being so superior to the other bikes. In Italy , and i was there then it was like this: Sport page when Agostini won and... Front page when MV Augusta lost.
