Jenson Button has vowed to punish himself for a disappointing performance in the Malaysian Grand Prix when he takes part in an altogether different kind of race this weekend.

Button failed to score at Sepang after a clash with Narain Karthikeyan's HRT and then issues with his tyres meant he finished the race down in 14th place.

The McLaren driver is now heading for Hawaii to take part in the Lavaman triathlon and he insisted he would be punishing himself in the event to make up for his result at Sepang.

"I am going to hurt myself because I deserve the pain after this race," he was quoted in the British press. "I will make sure I hurt myself extra for such a bad day.

"Hopefully my bad race of the year has gone - and I am still only ten points off the leader. That's not a worry. It's not bad, really, considering what kind of a race I had, but there are still 18 races to go and there is a lot of action still to come."
