Ferrari play down Key reports

Ferrari downplays links to former Sauber man James Key

Ferrari has moved to play down speculation suggesting that it was set to make a move to sign former Sauber technical director James Key.

Key elected to leave the Swiss team back in February, revealing at the time that he has been offered a role back in the UK [See separate story - HERE].

Rumours had suggested however that Ferrari was keen to take Key back into the F1 paddock in an attempt to strengthen its technical team, with the BBC amongst those to suggest a deal had been offered.

“Ferrari have approached former Sauber technical director James Key about taking a role with the team, BBC Sport understands,” a comment in the BBC's F1 gossip column read. “It is not yet clear which position he was offered or whether he has accepted.”

Ferrari has however been quick to play down the reports, with press officer Luca Colajanni telling AS there was 'nothing' in the report, and the team also used its official Twitter account to reply 'It is not true' when questioned over whether the story was correct.

Sauber elected not to bring in a replacement for Key, instead re-organising its technical department following his departure.
