Mercedes confirms Rosberg, Schumacher for Mugello

No place for reserve driver Sam Bird as Three-Pointed Star goes with race regulars for lone in-season test.
Another piece of the Mugello group test 'jigsaw' fell into place a couple of days before the three-day session gets underway, with Mercedes confirming its line-up.

The race-winning team has opted to follow the likes of Ferrari and Lotus in running its full race line-up across the three days, rather than using test or reserve drivers like McLaren has decided to do.

Despite having F1 hopeful Sam Bird waiting in the wings, and already familiar with its grand prix machinery, the Brackley-based team has confirmed that Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher will share the workload as it gears up for the first European swing of the season.

"Our schedule for the Mugello test is the following," the team confirmed to Crash.net,/i>, "Nico will run on Tuesday morning, with Michael on track in the afternoon. Michael will then run all day on Wednesday, before Nico gets back in the car on Thursday."

Rosberg heads to Italy buoyed by his maiden F1 win, in China, two races ago, while Schumacher will no doubt be hoping to get on better terms with the Pirelli tyres, which he chose to critise after the recent Bahrain Grand Prix.

Bird's World Series by Renault campaign gets underway at Motorland Aragon at the weekend, but former GP2 team-mate Jules Bianchi, who has also made the switch to the Renault-backed championship, will be present with Force India on the opening day at Mugello before race drivers Paul di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg complete the final two days of the session.

Ross Brawn rubbished the concept of designing to a driver in 2010 saying that they are designed to the tyres and the fixed weight distribution. All of this design preference is hogwash, and its poster needs to find something else to complain about.
