Rubens Barrichello admitted his extensive experience of F1 hadn't prepared him for the experience of driving on an oval circuit after the Brazilian took part in an IndyCar Series test in Texas on Monday.
Barrichello was one of a dozen drivers to take part in the test, which took place ahead of the start of proceedings for the 96th running of the Indianapolis 500 later this month [See separate story HERE
Having moved over to the IndyCar Series after losing his drive with Williams, Barrichello has made four starts so far, although all have been on street or road courses more akin to those he has experienced in the past while in F1.
The former Ferrari driver insisted however that lapping at more than 206mph on the Texas oval was like nothing he had experienced before.
"It was bloody fast, and very, very much different than anything I have ever tried," he told the Associated Press
. "I've had places that in Formula One that they say, 'Oh, it's almost flat and it's a big corner and it's a big challenge'. But the walls were never so close.
"I'm truly excited from what I just had. But my mind is still processing everything that has just happened."
Barrichello is eleventh in the points heading into the Indy 500.
