Mercedes has confirmed the departure of head of aerodynamics Loic Bigois to join a currently unknown rival team.

News of Bigois' departure came during the Monaco weekend after a re-organisation of Mercedes' technical team.

Geoff Willis is now overseeing the Mercedes aerodynamics team while speculation has suggested that Bigois could be set for a move to Ferrari.

"Loic has been a really loyal and important member of the team for a number of years," team boss Ross Brawn was quoted by Reuters. "We had an internal didn't fit in with what he was hoping to do.

"So he asked to be released from his contract and we released him. I think he's going somewhere else at the end of the year."
