Rosberg: We had a quick car

Nico Rosberg says he is happy with second in Monaco despite feeling he had the quickest car
Nico Rosberg said he felt Mercedes had the quickest car in the Monaco Grand Prix, even though the German was unable to beat Mark Webber to victory on the streets of the principality.

Rosberg started from second on the grid but was unable to beat Webber into turn one, instead settling in behind the Red Bull man through the opening stint.

Although Mercedes elected to pit first to try and jump Webber ahead, the bid failed with the Australian resuming ahead after he made his one and only stop and while it meant Rosberg had to settle for second place, he admitted it was a still a good result for the team.

“I had a good start but Mark did too,” he said. “It was really a matter of tyre management today and I was surprised how strong we were in qualifying and in the race. Over the weekend, we probably had the quickest car, which is great to see as we are making progress.”

Rosberg added that the decision to pit early to try and jump ahead of Webber had been the correct one.

“The strategy was straightforward,” he said. “We could have tried to go longer but that would have been difficult with the tyres and our best chance was to go short on the first stint to try and get ahead.

“It could have been P1 for us today, but I'm still happy with second place.”

Having the fastest car was negated by the fact that it was Monaco. This track should have been removed from the calendar a long time ago. The only reason it is kept on the calendar is because it makes Bernie a shed load of money and not because it is suitable for FI. I have watched F1 since 1960 and people have been saying you can't overtake at Monaco since then. It is compounded by having drivers pussyfooting around because of the daft tyres that they are using now. Somebody at F1 should read the definition of the word "race" in the Oxford Concise Dictionary and have a serious rethink.
