Webber happy to be starting as high as fourth

Far from looking downcast at his second row starting position for the Canadian Grand Prix, Mark Webber said that he was actually surprised to be as high as fourth on the grid.
Mark Webber will start from fourth place on grid for today's Canadian Grand Prix, but even though he ended up over half a second off the pole time of his team mate Sebastian Vettel, the Australian driver insisted that he was more than happy with the end result of qualifying.

"I'm surprised I'm in fourth," he insisted. "It wasn't the smoothest session, so I'm actually quite surprised to be there ... This was probably one of our weakest Q3s of the year.

"I wasn't super happy with the last few runs in terms of confidence in the car," he admitted. "And that means you don't get the most out of yourself, so fourth is okay."

His main area of concern was the final chicane on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Webber revealed.

"I'm not happy in the last chicane," he admitted to reporters after qualifying. "Normally I am ... The last few years here it has been a bloody strong chicane for me, but this year, I don't know why [it isn't.]" Webber added that it was fine once he got into a rhythm during longer race stints, but that it was eluding him in the single timed lap efforts. "I can't get into it and then I have poor change of direction," he said.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner revealed that Webber had also had a small technical issue to overcome during the tense qualifying session on Montreal.

"We had a small issue with a tyre blanket on his last run, but nonetheless he did an excellent job, said Horner, who was nonetheless delighted with the performances of both of his drivers on Saturday. "To be starting on pole and the second row is a great for tomorrow's grand prix."

As for Vettel's blistering fast pole time, Webber said that he'd been happy to see it and that it gave him a good feeling for his own race on Sunday as well.

"Seb did a very good lap," he said. "The car's good here and the weather should be good tomorrow for the race ... It's a long race and we're up there."
