Schumacher holds onto podium

Schumacher keeps podium, his first since the Chinese GP back in 2006

Michael Schumacher will keep his third place finish in the European Grand Prix after the stewards elected not to penalise him for using the DRS under yellows on the final lap.

A statement from the stewards said that the German did slow 'significantly' in the double yellow flag zone and consequently no action was taken.

"The Stewards considered a report that driver 7 used his DRS in a yellow flag zone and that this allegedly constituted a breach of Yellow Flag regulations [Appendix H Article],” the stewards said.

“Having examined telemetry and video evidence, and heard from the driver and team representatives, the Stewards noted that the driver did make a significant reduction in speed on entering the double waved flag zone.”

The stewards also added that the incident was not the same as Barcelona, when both Sebastian Vettel and Felipe Massa were punished for a similar offence.

“This incident differs substantially from that in Round 5 of the 2012 FIA F1 Championship,” officials emphasised.
