Red Bull Racing's Mark Webber put in a 'tremendous' drive to finish fourth in the European Grand Prix.

Webber had it all to do after DRS problems in qualifying left him down in a lowly 19th, but he stormed back through the pack and made the most of a 'crazy' race at the Valencia Street Circuit to finish just 1 second off the podium.

Speaking afterwards he was delighted with his afternoon - and the twelve points he took for P4 lifts him up to second in the F1 2012 drivers' championship, putting him six points ahead of his team-mate, Sebastian Vettel, and 20 points off the current leader, Fernando Alonso.

"I'm very happy with that, obviously it's been a tough weekend up until today, but you never know what's going to happen," Webber said.

"In the middle of the race I wasn't too happy and I didn't really know what was going on. Then there was a bit of attrition at the front and the strategy worked out.

"We got it all working well today and we got some good points. It was a crazy day today - but I got points, so I'm happy with that."

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner meanwhile felt the Aussie had done very well to fight his way back up and into contention.

"Mark drove a tremendous race and the strategy worked well," Horner added.

"He started on the hard tyres then went onto the softer tyres, picking off cars getting into tyre trouble at the end, so it was a great recovery from Mark, who drove well."
