Whiting impressed with Moscow

Charlie Whiting says the new Moscow Raceway would be well suited to F1
F1 race director Charlie Whiting has said that the new Moscow Raceway, which is set to open later this month, is a venue that would be capable of hosting a Formula One race in future.

Although Russia is set to join the F1 calendar in 2014, that race will be held in the coastal resort of Sochi, which will also play host to the Winter Olympics in the same year that the first F1 event is due to take place.

Speaking to RIA Novosti, Whiting said he was impressed with the Moscow circuit, with it being a 'business decision' that F1 would instead be competing elsewhere when the first race on Russian soil takes place.

“It's been built to the highest standards, the attention to detail is second to none and I think the circuit itself is Formula One standard,” he said of the Moscow venue, which has been designed by Hermann Tilke. “Mr. Ecclestone has reached the agreement with the people in Sochi, one assumes, so that's where we'll be racing. But this circuit is suitable for Formula One cars to race on.”

Moscow is set to host rounds of the Renault World Series, GT1 World Championship and World Superbike Championship before the end of the year.
