Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg failed to make the standard in the second phase of qualifying for the British Grand Prix.
After a long stoppage due to heavy rain, Q2 was re-started at 15.07 hours local time, with just over 6 minutes left on the clock. While conditions remained wet, all drivers improved on the earlier times, but one of the biggest losers, in addition to Rosberg, was Sergio Perez. He had been quickest before the red flags, but in the end finished up slowest and down in 17th.
Also eliminated was Paul di Resta, who finished up just on the wrong side of cut off in P11. Kamui Kobayashi also went out and was 12th on the timesheets ahead of Rosberg, Daniel Ricciardo and Bruno Senna. Jean-Eric Vergne was 16th, but will drop to the back due to a ten-place grid penalty from Valencia.
At the other end, Lewis Hamilton was quickest for McLaren, on a 1m 54.897s, ahead of Nico Hulkenberg and Michael Schumacher. Mark Webber, Romain Grosjean, Felipe Massa, Kimi Raikkonen, Pastor Maldonado, Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel also made it through to the shootout. Grosjean though, won't be able to take part, as he spun off and into the gravel at the end of Q2.
