Fernando Alonso grabs pole position at Silverstone

Championship leader Fernando Alonso has claimed pole position for the F1 2012 British Grand Prix.

The Spaniard, who only just made it into the top-ten shootout, posted a 1 minute 51.746 second lap, edging out Red Bull Racing's Mark Webber by just 0.047 seconds. Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel will share the second row, ahead of Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen.

Further back Pastor Maldonado came in seventh, while Lewis Hamilton could do no better than eighth in front of the home crowd. Nico Hulkenberg was ninth, while Romain Grosjean made the cut, but couldn't set a time, after spinning off and into the gravel at the end of Q2.

Full qualifying report now available.

@ Doris. Is the tin wrapped too tightly on your head? Your comments are ridiculous and contradicting. You must be new to F1, you should try to understand the rules regarding safety cars and red flags before making wild accusations. All you are proving now is that you don't know what your talking about and a Ferrari hater.
