Maldonado reprimanded and fined after Perez incident

Stewards take action against Pastor Maldonado

Pastor Maldonado has been handed a reprimand and fined following his coming together with Sergio Perez in the F1 2012 British Grand Prix.

Perez had called for the FIA to take action after the incident, branding the Williams driver a 'danger' and warning that unless something is done to teach the Venezuelan a lesson, 'someone may get hurt' [see separate story - HERE]. Maldonado unsurprisingly, saw things differently and he insisted that he had just lost the rear of the car, and that it was 'just racing' [see separate story - HERE]. The stewards, however, didn't see it as a racing incident, hence the reprimand and 10,000 Euro fine.

Meanwhile, Kamui Kobayashi was also fined after he badly misjudged his entry into the Sauber pit box during the final round of stops and ended up bowling over several of his mechanics. He will have to pay 25,000 Euros for his indiscretion. No one was seriously injured.

Giving a minted racing driver a 25,000 Euros is not going to be effective. If a driver has a load of money behind him fines are just "a nuisance". It would be much more effective to actually exlude a driver from a race for repative unacceptable driving.
