Ferrari in 'no hurry' to decide Massa's fate

Ferrari to make fans wait before deciding who will join Fernando Alonso in 2013

Ferrari has said it is in 'no hurry' to finalise its driver line-up for next season, despite missing out on Mark Webber.

Webber had been tipped as a possible replacement for Felipe Massa, but the Aussie put an end to such speculation by inking a new with Red Bull Racing on Tuesday, although he did admit to having discussions with the Scuderia [see separate story - HERE].

With those talks having failed though, it now remains to be seen who will partner Fernando Alonso in 2013, although some are suggesting that Massa might now actually stay on...

“The silly season, that point in the year when rumours start flying about who's going where among the F1 drivers and indeed in other sports too, is currently approaching its peak,” reads the latest 'Horse Whisperer' column on the Scuderia's official website.

“In Maranello, no one is in a hurry to make any decisions and that's for sure. Yesterday, one absolute certainty of the past few months was washed away, as we now know Webber is staying put.

“Now the most vociferous and qualified rumourmongers are taking it for granted that Felipe will be confirmed, these generally being the same voices that, not only had him down as being out of the running for 2013, but would have had us believe he would not even see out the season.

“Now coming into bloom are a whole list of possible and potential replacements, with a list of names from A to Z, something Ferrari is well used to.

“In truth, one letter, the “Z,” seems yet to be uncovered, or quite possibly it's Zorro… unmasked.”

Ferrari in 'no hurry' to make driver decision... That's because all of the good ones are already tied up. But what about Kovalainen? He would seem to be a decent fit if Massa is made to fall on his sword for the good of the team.

Ferrari wanted Kubica, sadly he got hurt. They thought Rosberg might look good in red, he resigned with Mercedes. Now Webber has inked for another year with Red Bull, Ferrari may be stuck with Massa after all. There are some good (unsigned for next year) drivers out there, but most don't seem to fit the mold of a "Ferrari" driver. Schumi was hustled out of the car. Raikkonen won a WDC, but was unceremoniously dumped. Hamilton isn't Ferrari material. Perez isn't ready. Listening to the talking heads at the Scuderia is making me dizzy. Just get it over with and give Felipe an extension.
