Nico Hulkenberg has admitted that Force India will have to 'dig deep' if they are to close up on Williams and Sauber.
The Silverstone-based outfit had been targeting fifth place in the constructors' championship pre-season, but currently lies down in eighth, with 44 points on the board, less than half that of Mercedes in P5. As such, sixth is now probably the optimum for Vijay Mallya's team, although even that won't be easy, given the 16-point gap to Sauber.
“You always need luck [to do well],” Hulkenberg said ahead of the F1 2012 German Grand Prix. “But you also need pace and speed and you need to be competitive, especially now in the midfield as it is very, very tight and very difficult.
“Obviously we see each Saturday and Sunday that one or two tenths [of a second] can make a big difference. Our main rivals have scored some big results and a lot of points.
“Now we have to really dig deep and keep our heads down to be within reach and keep the momentum up.”
