Raikkonen: I could still win title

Kimi Raikkonen: I'm not here just to drive around

Kimi Raikkonen reckons he could still win the drivers' title this season, even though he has yet to win a race.

The Finn has done well on his return to the sport with Lotus and has scored in every single race, except China, taking podiums in Bahrain, Barcelona and Valenica.

Despite that though, and despite being fifth in the drivers' championship with 83 points, he is already 46 behind Fernando Alonso, who leads.

“I have no reason to say I wouldn't try,” he told reporters ahead of the F1 2012 German GP according to setana.com. “I'm not here just to drive around. But I have no idea if we're going to be up there in the end or not.

“We'll try to give ourselves a chance and do as well as we can. We know that we have to improve on certain things.

“We're still not 100 per cent happy with how things have gone on all the weekends, but I would say that's what I was expecting. You don't think that everything will be perfect.

"It is still quite early days in the season and we are still up there. You cannot rule anything out.”

Raikkonen also added that he is confident they can keep up with the likes of Red Bull Racing, Ferrari and McLaren as the season goes on: “I think overall we've been pretty strong everywhere.

“We just have to work and improve. If we do everything 100 per cent right we can improve the car at the same rate as the others and then we should have a chance,” he summed-up.

You have to be an optimist in life I guess, but I have come to expect the unexpected from this man. He is cartainly capable of doing it if things fall into place.
