Alonso: It was on the limit

Fernando Alonso battles to pole at Hockenheim in poor weather conditions
Fernando Alonso said he felt conditions in Q3 were 'on the limit' after securing pole for the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim.

After rain started to fall in Q2, Alonso was heard on the radio telling his team that he felt it was too wet for Q3 to go ahead as planned, although officials allowed the ten minute shootout to go ahead on time.

Timing his run to perfection in the session, Alonso duly secured his second successive pole position ahead of Sebastian Vettel although he admitted that conditions on track had been far from easy.

"I think conditions were still very on the limit, but it is the same for everybody,” he said when asked about his comments following Q2. “I think sometimes it is good to check the circuit conditions.

"We did Q3 and I think going into turn six it was not easy for anybody, there was a lot of aquaplaning and we are at 280/90 km/h. But you know everything went well for us and we backed off a little bit in those aquaplaning moments and the rest of the lap was clean.

“I also think we made a good strategy call doing a pitstop in Q3 and then have a very fresh set of tyres in the last minute. That was when the track was in a little bit better condition and that helped us a lot to improve the laptime."

Alonso added that he was confident that Ferrari have a car that will be strong in all conditions, no matter what the weather throws at the team on race day.

"It has been a strange weekend for the conditions on the track,” he said. “We'll see tomorrow what will happen but the car was performing well in all conditions.”

You know is trolling when someone state his own opinions and guesses about pilots thought as if those were facts. IMO, Alonso is the best pilot in the world right now, and because is so obvious he is the best right now, trolls are enjoying talking s**t about him, that way they have what they want, that badly needed attention. Look for affection, it's far better, they should give it a try.

"We were on the limits".......AND awfully brave or incredibly stupid depending on whether it stays dry or rains in the rain, respectively. Fortune favors the brave...Ferrari went brave and used the extra wet tyre, taking a chance that it would not rain on Sunday....a chance that they also took in Silverstone, only the rain didnt happen there. Pole was down due to a brave strategy, and I have always rooted for the 'real' brave. So, here's hoping that the bravest win!
