Clos confirmed for practice outing at Hungary

Dani Clos is to have another opportunity behind the wheel of the HRT F1 car, after being handed the chance to replace Narain Karthikeyan behind the wheel in FP1 in Hungary.
HRT's test and reserve driver Dani Clos will have another chance to sample life behind the wheel of an F1 car when he takes charge of Narain Karthikeyan's car in the first free practice session at the Hungaroring on Friday.

"Dani will drive in the first free practice session once again," confirmed team principal Luis Pérez-Sala. "His work, just like in previous events, will definitely be of great use to the team."

The former GP2 driver has had three such FP1 outings already this season since signing up with HRT at the start of 2012, and is eagerly looking forward to his next chance behind the wheel.

"I'm really excited about having another opportunity to drive the car in the first free practice session in Hungary," said the 23-year-old from Barcelona.

"It will be the third consecutive Grand Prix and the fourth time this season that I get into the F112," added Clos. "I hope to transform that continuity into a good rhythm and a positive result on the track with which to make my contribution to the team."

After a full season of competing in the GP2 feeder series in 2011, Clos has limited himself to just two weekends of racing in the series - in Bahrain, back in April - and admits that he does somewhat miss the cut and thrust of competitive racing.

"To not compete is something new for me," he said. "So I have to enjoy and make the most of these opportunities presented to me to continue learning."

The Hungaroring is one of the one of the shortest circuits of the calendar, a mixture of high downforce and slow corners requiring soft suspension set-up. Many drivers compare it to a "hot and dusty Monaco" in terms of its difficulty, and how harshly it punished mistakes by the drivers.

"I've only raced once in Hungary, in 2005, and I remember it being quite a technical and challenging track. Seven years have passed since then so I'm going to have to work hard," said Karthikeyan, who will now be down one practice session in terms of experience next weekend compared with his team mate Pedro de la Rosa.
