Martin Whitmarsh has revealed that he will not stay on as chairman of the Formula One Team's Association [FOTA].

Whitmarsh, who replaced Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo back in 2009, has held the position ever since, but the McLaren team principal now feels it is time for someone else to take over at the helm.

"I will not volunteer for it [again]," he told Motorsport-Total.com. "It would be rather good if after three years someone else takes over."

Mercedes boss Ross Brawn and Lotus F1 boss Eric Boullier, who is currently FOTA's vice-president, are now tipped to fill the void: "I'd support either of those candidates," Whitmarsh added.
