Di Resta seeking key extra point at Spa

Paul di Resta and Force India were thwarted by the weather and spent most of Friday shivering in the garage, but the Scot is focused on winning a significant championship point on Sunday.
Paul di Resta admitted that there was little to say after rain prevented Force India and the rest of the F1 field from running in practice at Spa for most of Friday.

"We spent most of our time in the garage waiting for the rain to stop," admitted the Scottish driver. "You have to feel for the fans who didn't see much action. I hope they didn't get too wet."

Di Resta did get some early runs completed in the morning session, but the afternoon proved an almost total washout with few cars taking the risk of venturing out and possibly aquaplaning the car into the barriers.

"There were a few moments when the rain eased up this morning, so I managed to do some laps on the wet tyres," said di Resta. "But it was very tricky and there were some very wet parts of the track.

"It was just one of those days in Spa," chipped in his team mate, Nico Hulkenberg. "It was wet when we woke up and the rain stayed with us all day. It was cold, too, and quite chilly in the car. We did a limited programme because there was no point taking the risk on such a wet track - we think it will be dry tomorrow."

"We were expecting a wet day," confirmed Force India's chief engineer Jakob Andreasen. "The priority was to try and make the best of very difficult conditions and to be ready in case there was a break in the weather. When the rain eased up during the morning, both drivers went out and got a feel for the car in these conditions."

The forecast is for cloudy but dry conditions over the rest of the race weekend, and Di Resta has a very specific target for his time at Spa: just one more point will mean that he beats his total 2011 championship haul.

"The aim has to be to get that point," he said, but admitted: "There have been a number of Grands Prix where we've just not been fast enough to achieve it.

“Last year we sat for a little while then started scoring and there is no reason why we can't achieve a lot more again," he continued. “Any kind of points will be a good result after the last two Grands Prix. That would be the initial target."
