Hamilton to Mercedes rumours dismissed

Speculation Lewis Hamilton could be on his way from McLaren to Mercedes have been denied by all three parties

McLaren has said reports Lewis Hamilton is close to securing a deal to switch to Mercedes are untrue.

Speculation of the move has been fuelled after former team boss-turned-BBC analyst Eddie Jordan claimed that he believes 'Hamilton and Mercedes have already agreed personal terms' and that a deal 'could be imminent' [see separate story - HERE]. However a spokesperson for McLaren said the story was not accurate.

"We have been told by Lewis Hamilton's management team that the story is untrue. Negotiations between Lewis Hamilton and McLaren [to conclude a new deal for 2013 and beyond] continue."

Meanwhile, Simon Fuller's XIX Management, which looks after Hamilton, also played down the reports.

“As mentioned in the past by all parties, we are in advanced discussions with McLaren about a new deal. More importantly, at the moment, Lewis is focused on Monza [where this weekend's Italian Grand Prix takes place] and competing strongly for the championship.”

Mercedes have also issued a denial of sorts: “Until we are in a position to confirm our full driver line-up for next season, it is inevitable there will be speculation around this topic. We would ask for your understanding, however, that we do not comment on speculation.”

More to follow as and when it develops...

There's an oportunity being missed here, Fuller wants Lulu to be a global star, why not just reform the Spice Girls and get Lulu involved? Scary Spice Posh Spice Ginger Spice Baby Spice and Stupid Spice! This has some mileage, although the girls might be envious of Lulu's earrings, and Lulu might be envious that Ginger can grow a better beard than him!

Yeah, cause McLaren and Simon Fuller have denied it MUST mean it isn't true! Not saying it will happen, but anyone who believes it's not true just because this lot say so are deluded! Remember, Merc haven't denied it...
