Raikkonen a danger in title fight

Stefano Domenicali says Kimi Raikkonen is a danger in the title fight having moved up to third in the standings at Monza
Kimi Raikkonen is emerging as a 'dangerous driver' in the race for the 2012 F1 title according to Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali.

Although he has yet to win since rejoining the grid this season, Raikkonen has become a serious contender on the back of six podium finishes so far for Lotus.

The former Ferrari man is now third in the standings, 38 points behind Fernando Alonso, and Domenicali admitted that he saw the Finn as a danger when it comes to the title fight.

"I have to respect all of them, and I've always said that Kimi, step by step, is a dangerous driver and he's getting closer and closer,” he was quoted by ESPNF1 when asked who he saw as the biggest threat to Alonso's current lead. "For sure Hamilton with the car he has now is very strong, but we have seen in the last two races that anything can happen. So all the drivers that are in the top five and top six need to be taken very seriously. So we need to see the situation race by race to see the competitive situation of the car they are driving and what is there position. That's the only thing that we have to do now."

Domenicali added that Ferrari now held more hope of also securing the constructors' championship, having made the most of a double DNF for Red Bull to close the gap on the standings to 46 points.

"The constructors' situation is difficult but still open for the four top teams that are still there," he said. "It is another motivation and motivating factor for all of us because we are performing the best way that we can."

As I've said all year, Hamilton won't be champion he lacks the maturity & mental strength to win the championship, I know he won it in 2008 but the field is a lot stronger now. I think the best person to challenge Alonso is Raikkonen, Monza didn't suit the car, Singapore & the rest of the tracks that are coming up should suit Lotus s lot better as they can keep their tires in better shape during race distance & the heat will be higher which their car likes. Raikkonen has been stealthy & I'm hoping he'll be champion this year.
