Pic ready for night debut as rumours go on

Charles Pic prepares for his first outing in Singapore as rumours about his future on the F1 grid continue
Charles Pic says he is looking forward to his first appearance in F1's night race in Singapore as rumours continue about his future.

The Frenchman has produced a number of impressive performances this season with the Marussia team and has a best finish of 15th in both Australia and in Valencia.

Singapore next weekend will be his first appearance in an F1 car under lights and Pic said was keen to continue his education on the city streets.

“I am really looking forward to my first night race at this fantastic circuit, and actually, my first visit to Singapore,” he said. “I have heard so many great things about this race, from the experience of racing under the lights to the fantastic city, so I'm arriving nice and early to get the measure of everything.

“We are back into unknown territory for me, which I'm really excited about. The early part of the season and Canada were the same for me, but I am happy with the way I have been acclimatising to new circuits and getting up to speed quite quickly. Singapore adds another dimension due to the transition to European hours, but it's all part of the learning experience, which has been going very well for me.

“It will be a busy phase for us now and I am really looking forward to the challenge of continuing to make good progress at this later stage of the season.”

Pic's Singapore debut comes with reports that his management team is working on a deal to secure him a drive with a team higher up the grid for the 2013 season.

Sauber has been one option mentioned in recent weeks but Pic himself refused to be drawn on the speculation.

"I'm focused on what I have to do to get out 100 per cent of the potential of my car,” he was quoted by Le Dauphine Libere. "Of course it (the future) is open, and Olivier Panis and Didier Coton, who take care of me, are talking with teams, but that's normal at this stage of the season.

"We'll see."

It surprises me that Pic has been able to keep up with Timo Glock as well as he has. Timo Glock is a driver I always rated, but really hasn't been up to scratch in the Virgin. While I would be surprised to see Glock let go at the end of the season, every season he isn't just puzzles me a little bit more. Like Timo massively, but he's really being shown up...

It would be nice to him get a ride in a better car. Maybe he can replace Hamilton if should go (someplace) to Mercedes as rummered.. Maybe to Ferrari as a Massa replacement. Best you stay put and get some F1 miles under you butt Baby, you have not completed a full season. New guy you are, cool it. Man the stewards have yet to point a nasty finger at you. Start putting some aggressive moves on Kimi, Alonzo, and Schumy. Bump some wheels, Start driving like a F1 driver, go for it.. Then you will move up the grid. Like it is.. The Badman, Jose
