Hamilton: Time to get exciting

Lewis Hamilton says the excitement in F1 is about to go up as the sport heads for Singapore
Lewis Hamilton has said that the F1 season will now 'start to get exciting' as fight for the championship title heads into the finishing straight.

Singapore this weekend will be the first of seven races outside Europe that will decide the destination of the title, with Hamilton heading into the event on the back of two wins in the last three races; all of which were won by his McLaren team after Jenson Button's success at Spa.

Hamilton's two victories have seen him move up to second in the championship standings behind Fernando Alonso, albeit with a 37 point deficit to the Spaniard, and the Briton said he was optimistic about his chances as he heads for F1's annual night race.

“We're now inching closer to the finishing line – and this is where it starts to get exciting!” he said. “After winning the last three races of the European season, the whole team starts the long haul around the world for the final series of flyaways that will determine the outcome of this year's world championship.

“After winning in Hungary and Monza, I head to Singapore full of positivity and optimism that we can take the title fight to Fernando [Alonso]. I enjoy the Marina Bay circuit in the same way that I like racing at the Hungaroring – it's a darty track that requires you to really be on top of the car to get the best from it. It requires more finesse, though: most of the braking zones are approached at very high speed, and the walls are never far away. Factor in the heat and humidity and it's a very challenging weekend.”

Hamilton will however hope for more luck than in the past two seasons, where clashes on track robbed him of the chance to fight at the front.

“Although I had a fantastic win there back in 2009, I've not had the greatest of results in Singapore recently,” he said. “I got a puncture and retired after tangling with Mark Webber in 2010 and I was delayed after touching wheels with Felipe [Massa] last year.

“Both those races were unlucky for me – I think I need a better roll of the dice this time around!”

@Bubbles Sparxx @jumbobet Maybe if the other drivers had something else to say then we'd hear from them. There's plenty of Alonso on this site, and nearly every Q&A session I've seen has been with Lotus. If you don't like Hamilton then don't click the link - nobody has a gun to your head.
