Perez: There's been no contact

Sergio Perez says he hasn't been approached about a deal for the 2013 season by any of the F1 front-runners
Sergio Perez says he hasn't been approached by any rival teams about a deal for the 2013 F1 season after rumours linking him to both Ferrari and McLaren emerged.

The Mexican has enjoyed a fine season so far with three podium finishes for Sauber and has been mentioned as a possible replacement for either Felipe Massa or Lewis Hamilton if either left their respective teams at the end of the year.

However, speaking ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix this weekend, Perez said he hadn't been approached by anyone and that suggestions he could be on the move for next year were nothing more than speculation.

“No,” he replied when asked if approaches have been made. “In the position that I am, when I have a good result because I'm fighting for points and sometimes I'm able to get some good points, it's the time when the rumours start but then you have another race and there are no more rumours and they are chasing the driver who has a good race. In that respect, I'm not really worried. I know that I have a very strong car for the next seven races so I hope I can deliver very strong performances.

“There are so many rumours around. Before it was Ferrari, and now it's McLaren. Always, when I have a good race, they put me in a different team. The most important thing is to keep doing a good job and try to maximise the car potential for the next races.”

Any hope Perez had of possibly moving to Ferrari seemed to have gone after Luca di Montezemolo suggested that he lacked the experience needed, but the youngster admitted he felt ready if the opportunity of a leading drive did arise.

“In respect of what Montezemolo said about experience, I fully respect his opinion,” he said. “I have to know my position, probably, he means, to become a Ferrari driver you probably need more... I don't know, because it's only my second year in Formula One. I feel ready to do a good job, to be in a top team, to be able to fight for the title, for the championship, so in that respect I feel ready but I fully respect his opinion.”
