Senna focused on solid results

20 September 2012

Bruno Senna says his focus for the remainder of the season is on scoring solidly for Williams as he seeks to secure a drive for the 2013 season.

Williams has yet to confirm its plans for next year, with test driver Valtteri Bottas being hotly tipped for a race seat thanks to some impressive Friday testing displays and his links with Williams shareholder Toto Wolff.

Senna is seen to be the driver most at risk given the financial backing brought to the team by Pastor Maldonado but the Brazilian said he was focused on doing the best job he could through the remainder of the season to ensure he keeps his seat.

“I think the focus is to continue scoring points consistently,” he said. “There's no target for anything. The target for me has always been, since the beginning of the season, to qualify and do the best job I can in the races and I'm sure that, coming to the next few races, I had a pretty decent run last year in a few of them, and I think that with added experience, I can improve and do a good job.

“Of course every time I get in the car I aim to get a podium or a win, but this is not always possible and if we can do something like that then great news for me. We've seen a few weekends where we've seen someone has just suddenly jumped to the front and won the race and had a dominant weekend. If you get everything in the right window, with the way the cars work and the way the cars work then we are more than capable of having a good result.”

Senna added that he felt Singapore was a circuit that would give Williams a good chance of points, with the car having performed well on tracks requiring downforce levels earlier in the year.

“Yeah, definitely,” he replied when asked if Singapore will suit the car. “Our car has been very happy on high downforce tracks and here we're running everything we have so it's good news for us. I think coming from a couple of difficult races where sometimes strategy played a bit of a part in our results we're hoping to come back and score some solid points for the team.”
