Gerhard Berger has questioned if Ferrari will be right to retain Felipe Massa for the 2013 F1 season.

Massa's future has been at the centre of speculation for some time, with a number of drivers having been linked with his seat for next season if the Brazilian didn't earn a contract extension.

One man mentioned as one possible replacement has already secured a drive elsewhere in the shape of Sergio Perez, with Nico Hulkenberg and Paul di Resta also names that have been linked with Massa's drive.

A second place finish in Japan last week is believed to have gone some way towards earning Massa a new contract but former Ferrari man Berger said he didn't feel it was the right move.

"This makes no sense," he told Auto Bild. "It's never just about one race. I would put Hulkenberg or di Resta in his place.

"They are young and fast - exactly what Ferrari needs to fight for the constructors' title."
