Berger questions Massa call

Gerhard Berger questions if Ferrari should retain Felipe Massa
Gerhard Berger has questioned if Ferrari will be right to retain Felipe Massa for the 2013 F1 season.

Massa's future has been at the centre of speculation for some time, with a number of drivers having been linked with his seat for next season if the Brazilian didn't earn a contract extension.

One man mentioned as one possible replacement has already secured a drive elsewhere in the shape of Sergio Perez, with Nico Hulkenberg and Paul di Resta also names that have been linked with Massa's drive.

A second place finish in Japan last week is believed to have gone some way towards earning Massa a new contract but former Ferrari man Berger said he didn't feel it was the right move.

"This makes no sense," he told Auto Bild. "It's never just about one race. I would put Hulkenberg or di Resta in his place.

“They are young and fast - exactly what Ferrari needs to fight for the constructors' title."

Firstly, I'm a big fan of Felipe as a person, a more honest, sporting, humble guy you will not meet on an F1 grid. On his day he's also a hell of a driver, 2008 beat Kimi in the same car and out drove Lulu who had a better car. His last couple of years have been crap to be honest, could be as a result of his accident or maybe it's the Alonso effect, I don't know. But he has shown real improvement in the last 7 races, the only drivers that have out scored him in that time are Alonso, Vettel, Raikkonen, Button and Hamilton, he now looks good to finish 7th in the championship, considering his first 8 races thats not bad. Felipe has his mojo back and he is a great Ferrari servant, he deserves another year at least.
