Maldonado keen to stay

Pastor Maldonado says he wants to stay at Williams for F1 2013
Despite suggesting that his future in F1 could lie away from Williams, Pastor Maldonado has insisted that his first choice would be to remain with the Grove-based outfit for a third year in 2013.

The Venezuelan was quoted earlier this week as saying that there was a chance to go to other teams next year, leading to speculation that the Spanish GP winner was evaluating his options.

Speaking ahead of the Korean Grand Prix however, Maldonado moved to clarify his position by insisting that he wanted to stay where he is for a third year and was hopeful that a deal could be concluded.

“To be honest I really want to stay with Williams,” he said. “It's a good team and the team is getting better and better every day. We've been rebuilding everything in the team and I think now it's more compact and the car is looking, as I mentioned before, every day better and better.

“I have good confidence with them but at the moment there is not confirmation. I'm looking forward to seeing that, but otherwise looking forward to remaining in Formula One for sure.”

Maldonado could however be the only constant in the Williams line-up next year amidst ongoing speculation surrounding the future of team-mate Bruno Senna.

The Brazilian is said to be under threat of losing his drive to impressive test driver Valtteri Bottas, who has impressed the team with his performances in Friday testing at a number of events this year.

Bottas has made no secret of his desire to move into a race seat and insisted he was ready to make the step up.

"I think I've shown my speed and I really, really hope I can get it,” he told Sky Sports News. “Who wouldn't like to race? Williams would of course be [the] ideal place to stay but it's up to the team to decide and we don't know yet when that's going to happen."

Malodorono was either delusional or just having us on, when said he implied he had choices. There is no better situation for him than Williams and he should consider himself lucky to drive for them.
