Vijay Mallya, the boss of the Sahara Force India
team, has been hit with an arrest warrant by a court in his native India according to media reports.
According to the AFP
agency, the warrant has been issued over a series of cheques that were handed to the operator of Hyderabad International Airport, which then bounced, by Mallya;s airline Kingfisher.
The cheques, totalling more than £1.2 million, were to settle user fees at the airport, with the fact they then bounced meaning the operators have now taken action.
"The cases were listed today for the airline to appear in the court," a spokesman for the complainant in the case, airport operator GHIAL, told AFP
. "Since they failed to appear before the magistrate, the court has ordered issuance of NBW (non-bailable warrants) against Kingfisher Airlines (KFA), Vijay Mallya and four other KFA officials."
Kingfisher is currently seeking a buyer with staff having gone unpaid for a number of months.
