Ricciardo 'hoped to be closer to Q3'

"I will have to try and get a good race tomorrow," he said, trying to look on the bright side of the weekend so far. "If you look at Daniel's performance today, the car definitely has the performance, so I'm looking forward to tomorrow."

Mekies suggested that tyre strategy would be crucial to how the team fared in Sunday's 2012 F1 Grand Prix of India at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida.

"Tyre management is tricky here as could be seen from the fact that most cars did a lot of laps in qualifying and overall, we are pretty much in the mix, ahead of some of our usual competitors and behind a few others," said the engineer. "This means we can compete with them tomorrow and if we can confirm our usual race pace tomorrow, it should allow us to fight for points."

For his own part, Daniel Ricciardo was certainly up for the challenge: "We are looking alright for tomorrow, as my lap time on used options seems quite respectable," he said.

Vergne complains a little to much and may see him ousted from Toro Rosso for this expicit reason. He needs to accept where he is/what he has got as does Ricciardo and he may have a future in F1. The team principles have admitted the car does not meet expectations so be patient and low key and see what 2013 holds.

Ricciardo is starting to show some real potential in the last half of the season, he has thoroughly had a Field day in Qualifying thus far and now his race craft is coming Together, if STR make a car good enough to fight with Sauber and Force india next year he will be the man to watch in 2013. Vergne on the other hand, to me has shown no Real improvement since he had started, he was better in the Races for the first half of the season but hasn't shown any Turnaround or Clear improvement Like Ricciardo and surely doesn't have the ability to put the car in a good Grid position in Qualifying.
