Massa fumes over lack of penalty for Webber

Ferrari's Felipe Massa was indignant over the lack of a penalty for Mark Webber, over the mid-race incident on lap 27 that sent Massa into a spin which wrecked his race strategy.
Felipe Massa was incredulous when he tangled with Red Bull's Mark Webber midway through the 2012 F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix: "Did you see what he did to me?" he yelled over the team radio, as he was sent into a spin by Mark Webber returning to the track right ahead of him after the Red Bull cut a chicane.

The Ferrari driver was still fuming at the end of the race, his temper not helped by news that the race stewards had looked at the incident and deemed that no action was required on Webber.

"We were braking for turn 11, he tried to pass me on the outside and I was on the corner on the inside," he explained. "We touched wheels on the apex of the corner and he decided to go straight at the chicane and cut the chicane.

"I was doing the chicane and then he passed in front of me and I had to brake very hard not to hit his car - and I spun. So, he caused an incident." Even though he went on to finish in seventh place, Massa resented the impact this had on his race: "The duel with Webber was the vital moment, as it meant I lost a lot of places at a crucial point in the race ... A shame, because I could at least have finished ahead of Kobayashi."

Massa was particularly unhappy with the stewards' inaction over the incident.

"It's not the first time we've seen the stewards not making the right decisions and they decided not to give anything," he said. "For me it was completely wrong."

But Massa had other problems on his mind during the race.

"It was a difficult race for me. In particular, I suffered on the softs because of more degradation than we had expected," he conceded. "I had problems with the balance: understeer in the fast corners and oversteer in the slow ones.

"At the next race, I too will have the technical updates that Fernando had here and we hope there will also be other ones to improve the car's performance," he said, turning his focus forward to the inaugural F1 race at the new Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

"[In Abu Dhabi] we saw that McLaren and Lotus were very strong - apart from Red Bull of course - but it's not certain that elsewhere it will be the same," he pointed out.

It seems that a lot of ppl don't get what the complaint was. Here is a newbie friendly version of it. MB tried to around the outside, squeezed Massa on the inside and left him nowhere to go, so they touched (fair move despite being a mistake). Then goes wide (off track) and from there he accelerates straight to apex of the next turn. FM, on track, had to brake to make the apex but MB was on a collision course and much faster (didn't have to brake), FM hit his brake hard to avoid contact and spun. The rules say you need to rejoin the race in a safe manner. MB did not do that, HENCE THE NEED FOR A PENALTY.
