Rosberg: You can't blame Grosjean

Nico Rosberg says Romain Grosjean can't be blamed for opening lap clash in Abu Dhabi
Nico Rosberg has refused to blame Romain Grosjean for the clash between the two on the opening lap of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The pair touched during the first lap of the Yas Marina race and were forced to pit for repairs, dropping both to the rear of the field.

It was during his fightback through the field that Rosberg was then involved in a collision with Narain Karthikeyan that saw him launched skywards over the back of the Indian racer's HRT.

Lotus ace Grosjean has come under fire for a number of incidents this season and was banned from the Italian Grand Prix for his part in the crash at the start of the Belgian race at Spa, but Rosberg said he was blameless for the Abu Dhabi clash which was nothing more than a racing incident.

"My getaway in the race was so-so and then I had an incident with Grosjean,” he said.” I can't blame him, I can't blame myself either. I think it was just a racing incident. Things just got a bit tight and I damaged my front wing and had to come in.

"Battling my way back up the order, the pace was quite good, quite quick and there seems to be an improvement there. Then following Karthikeyan, his steering broke at a corner than is flat out and he braked and I had nowhere to go.

“It was quite scary because I just saw blue sky. But in the end I was quite fortunate because it was not a very bad accident and I hurt nothing. The impact was okay and I was fortunate as it could have been worse.”

While Rosberg's retirement played a part in Mercedes again failing to score, the German did concede that there were positives to take away from the weekend.

"All in all it was obviously a very poor weekend for me,” he said. “But there was a highlight for me: qualifying. Eighth place was quite good because it's definitely an upward trend for us to be eighth, one tenth away from the best Ferrari, six tenths away from the best Red Bull.

"That's positive for sure, it shows that we're making progress."

Grosjean looked completely dejected, maybe thinking it was his fault for the comedy crash with 4 drivers, well it wasn't his fault at all, anyone with half a brain could see that.
