Sergio Perez is expecting his fellow countrymen to flock to the US Grand Prix next weekend given the relatively close proximity of the Circuit of the Americas to Mexico.
Perez has had a difficult run since being confirmed as a McLaren driver for F1 2013 and after failing to score in the last four races, the Sauber driver will be determined to turn things around and do as well as possible at an event he regards as his 'home' grand prix.
“I am very much looking forward to this race! I think it is the closest race for eight years for me to my home town of Guadalajara. I expect many Mexican F1 fans to attend and this, for sure, will give me an extra boost,” Perez said ahead of the 19th and penultimate round in the 2012 F1 World Championship.
“Of course I also hope there will be a Mexican Grand Prix one day, because I am aware of the great enthusiasm for F1 in my country, but for now I regard the race in Austin as my home Grand Prix.”
The trip to the brand new Austin circuit meanwhile will mark a step into unknown territory for all the teams and drivers', not that Perez is overly concerned.
“I have no issues about learning new tracks quickly,” he added. “In my first F1 season, which was only last year, I had many tracks to learn.”
So what is his target?
“I definitely want to put in a strong result for both the Sauber F1 Team and myself,” he concluded.
