Did Ferrari get their call right?

Were Ferrari right to hand Felipe Massa a five-place grid penalty in Texas?
The United States Grand Prix proved to be a huge success, with teams, drivers and fans alike praising the Circuit of the Americas during the Texas race weekend.

The race itself saw Lewis Hamilton win for McLaren ahead of title protagonists Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso – the latter having benefitted from a strategy call from Ferrari ahead of the race to bump him up the grid.

Alonso should have started the race on the dirty side of the circuit from eighth pace but instead lined up seventh after Ferrari decided to break the seal on Felipe Massa's gearbox – thereby giving the Brazilian a five-place grid drop that promoted Alonso a place and put him on the clean side of the circuit

The Spaniard duly made a good start to the race and went on to finish on the podium, although Massa was left to wonder what might have been after a solid run through from eleventh after his penalty to take fourth.

While Ferrari did nothing wrong in terms of the regulations, some have questioned whether the move was within the spirit of the rules – with the penalty also having an impact on a number of other drivers who had qualified behind the Brazilian on the grid.

it was legitimate.. its called racing strategy.. just like the tyre strategies.. they knew they couldnt win the constructors so they gave a shot in the dark for alonso and it paid off.. good result by massa as well.. dont understand what you guys are complaining about.. either u just hate alonso/ferrari or you dont know strategy..
